Gehringer Brothers Estate Winery

Gehringer Brothers Estate Winery is one of the South Okanagan's enduring family wineries, established in 1985 by Walter and Gordon Gehringer, brothers who trained as winemakers in Europe before returning home to build their own estate near Oliver. Four decades on, the winery remains a benchmark for German-influenced winemaking in British Columbia, with a portfolio that reads like a love letter to the Rhine: Riesling in both classic and dry styles, Ehrenfelser, Gewurztraminer-Schonburger, Auxerrois and Pinot Gris, alongside Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and reds including Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet-Merlot. Dessert wine lovers are especially well served, as Gehringer Brothers has built a strong reputation for late harvest wines and icewines made from Riesling, Ehrenfelser and Cabernet Franc. The winery's long record of medals stretches across decades of competition, and Wine Press Northwest has called it one of the finest wine producers anywhere on the west coast. Visitors will find the winery at 876 Road 8, just off the highway between Oliver and Osoyoos in the heart of the South Okanagan's vineyard country, with the tasting room open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. The experience is refreshingly old-school: friendly, unpretentious and focused on the wine, with prices that have long made Gehringer Brothers a favourite among value-conscious BC wine lovers. The location makes it an easy addition to any Golden Mile or Black Sage touring day, and the aromatic whites and icewines offer a distinctive counterpoint to the big reds that dominate much of the neighbourhood. For travellers wanting to understand the German and Austrian roots that shaped early BC winemaking, an hour at Gehringer Brothers is among the best history lessons the valley pours.
