Frequency Winery

Frequency Winery may be the most unconventional tasting stop in the Okanagan Valley: a family-run Kelowna winery built around the relationship between wine and sound. Opened by the Lewis family, Frequency is the only winery in Canada with a fully functioning recording studio on site, and its wines are exposed to harmonic sound frequencies as they develop, an approach the family describes as infusing the wines with good vibes from the Sound Infusion Studio. Musicians and recording artists from around the world have come to work in the studio, and the winery insists only on positive intentions from the performers who play to its barrels. Whether or not visitors buy into the science, the experience is unlike anything else in BC wine country. The property on Gulley Road in southeast Kelowna features two tasting rooms and a rooftop patio, with live bands performing on weekends through the season and private listening sessions that pair guests' favourite tracks with the wines in the glass. Recent releases have included a GSM blend, a white blend and a Grenache rose, all handcrafted in small lots. The location sits in the rural benchland of East Kelowna, a short drive from the city centre and close to other wineries and cideries in the area, making it an easy and memorable addition to a Kelowna touring day. Hours are limited outside peak season, so checking the website or calling ahead is wise.
