Burton City Cider

location_onBurton, Kootenays

Burton City Cider is a farm-based cidery in the West Kootenays, crafted in Burton, BC by cidermakers Barbara and Alan Ross, who opened the operation in 2016. The focus is squarely on all-natural, handcrafted cider made from apples grown in their own orchard. Because every year's crop is different, the lineup evolves with the harvest, and the makers are always experimenting with new flavour blends, so a visit often brings something you have not tried before. Cider is available in 500ml bottles, growlers, and kegs.

The tasting room is where it all comes together, inviting you to sample the latest creations straight from the source. Alongside the cider, the Tasting Room Bistro serves appetizers and light fare plus a small selection of local craft beer, making it easy to settle in for a relaxed afternoon rather than a quick pour. Both the tasting room and bistro are wheelchair accessible, a thoughtful touch for a rural farm stop.

The setting is pure Kootenay countryside, about twenty minutes west of Nakusp along Highway 6 in the Arrow Lakes region, where forested mountains and quiet valley roads set the tone. This is genuinely off-the-beaten-path territory, the kind of place you seek out as part of a slow, scenic Kootenay road trip rather than stumble upon, which is exactly what gives it its charm. Hours can vary with the season, so it is a good idea to call ahead and confirm before making the drive. For travellers who love discovering small, family-run producers in beautiful out-of-the-way corners of BC, Burton City Cider rewards the journey with honest, orchard-grown cider and a welcoming, community-minded atmosphere.
