Baillie-Grohman Estate Winery
location_onCreston, Kootenays
Baillie-Grohman Estate Winery is a small, family-owned vineyard and winery in the Creston Valley, one of the leading names in the Kootenays' compact but increasingly respected wine region. Set on 27th Avenue South on the edge of Creston, the winery grows all of its own grapes in valley vineyards and makes every wine on site, focusing on cool-climate varieties that suit this mountain-ringed growing area: Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer lead the portfolio. For travellers crossing the Kootenays between the Okanagan and the Rockies, it makes a rewarding reason to slow down in Creston, a town better known for its orchards and grain elevators than its vines, though that is steadily changing.
The visitor experience centres on a welcoming tasting room and a patio with views over the vineyard and valley. Guests can work through a self-paced tasting flight of four wines of their choice with guidance from knowledgeable staff, then linger over a glass and a bite; a charcuterie menu is served daily through the summer months. The winery operates seasonally, typically opening in late spring with Thursday-to-Sunday hours and expanding to seven days a week from mid-June through to mid- or late September, and winery tours are available by appointment by phone or email. The Creston Valley's combination of hot summer days, cool nights and fertile benchland gives the wines a fresh, aromatic character distinct from the South Okanagan, and tasting that difference on site is half the fun. Paired with Creston's farm stands, fruit orchards and the nearby Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area, Baillie-Grohman anchors an easygoing, uncrowded wine-touring day in one of BC's most scenic corners.
