Blasted Church Vineyards
location_onOkanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley
Blasted Church Vineyards takes its memorable name from a true local tale: in 1929, crews dismantling a mining-camp church near Fairview detonated a small dynamite charge inside the building to loosen its rusty nails, then rebuilt the church in Okanagan Falls, where it still stands today. The winery on Parsons Road celebrates that spirit of creative problem-solving in everything from its colourful caricature wine labels to its tagline, Classical Wine, Modern World. Located on the Skaha Bench above Skaha Lake in the South Okanagan, Blasted Church draws fruit from vineyards stretching from Okanagan Falls down to Osoyoos, giving its winemaking team a broad palette of sites and varieties to work with. The range runs from crisp whites such as Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay to reds including Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, along with popular blends like Hatfield's Fuse, named for the resourceful engineer behind the original church explosion.
For visitors, Blasted Church is one of the anchor stops on the Okanagan Falls wine loop, an area increasingly recognized for the quality of its benchland vineyards. The winery offers tastings by reservation, and its hillside setting provides sweeping views over the surrounding vineyards. Wine lovers who want to stay connected can join one of the winery's two clubs, The Flock and The Choir, which offer regular shipments and member benefits. Hours and tasting formats change seasonally, so it is worth checking the website or calling ahead before visiting. With its blend of irreverent storytelling, serious winemaking and a genuinely scenic location between Penticton and Oliver, Blasted Church makes an easy and entertaining addition to any South Okanagan touring day, whether you are a first-time visitor drawn in by the labels or a returning fan of the wines themselves.
