Bartier Bros.

location_onOliver, Okanagan Valley

Bartier Bros. is the project of brothers Michael and Don Bartier, whose family-owned vineyard and winery sits on Ryegrass Road along the Black Sage Bench just south of Oliver, in the warm heart of the South Okanagan. The brothers built the winery around a clear philosophy: sustainable vineyard management and honest wines that express what they describe as the Okanagan's unique attributes of purity, freshness, vibrancy and intensity. The portfolio reflects that focus, with mineral-driven Chardonnay, Semillon and Riesling among the whites, a Brut sparkling, and reds led by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and several blends. They also make a popular Piquette, a light, refreshing, zero-sugar sipper at just four percent alcohol that has become something of a cult favourite for hot valley afternoons.

Visiting is straightforward and friendly. The tasting room is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm; reservations are recommended and earn a discount on tasting fees when booked online, but walk-ins are always welcome. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic and make use of the winery's picnic area, settling in among the vines on one of the Okanagan's most storied stretches of wine road, with Black Sage Road's sandy benchland all around. A wine club offers ten percent off, free shipping and club social events. Oliver bills itself as the wine capital of Canada, and Bartier Bros. delivers the case for that claim in approachable form: serious, terroir-focused winemaking without pretension, from two brothers with deep local roots. It slots perfectly into a Black Sage Bench tasting route between Oliver and Osoyoos.
