Indigenous World Winery

Indigenous World Winery in West Kelowna is a landmark of the British Columbia wine industry: when it opened its doors in 2016 it was the first fully Indigenous, privately owned winery in the province. The winery is 100 percent owned and operated by direct descendants of the Syilx people of the Okanagan, founders Robert and Bernice Louie, whose family connection to this land reaches back thousands of years, and the brand has been producing wines since 2012. Grapes are sourced from the Okanagan and Similkameen valleys and shaped by winemaker Jason Parkes, and the wines have earned an impressive collection of international awards, putting Indigenous World firmly on the map for quality as well as cultural significance.
The modern facility on Horizon Drive sits just off Highway 97 in West Kelowna, minutes from downtown Kelowna, making it one of the most accessible winery stops in the central Okanagan. Visitors can settle into the tasting room for a flight of VQA wines, browse a gift shop featuring Indigenous-themed works, and relax in the picnic area with views over Okanagan Lake country. The standout for many guests is the Red Fox Club, the winery's restaurant, which serves modern cuisine rooted in Indigenous ingredients and traditions, an experience that is rare in Canadian wine country and gives a visit here a depth that goes well beyond the glass. The property also includes a small conference and event centre that hosts gatherings and weddings. For travellers exploring the West Kelowna wine bench, Indigenous World offers something genuinely distinct: excellent wines, a warm welcome, and the chance to experience the Okanagan through the perspective of the people who have called this valley home the longest.
